Obituary for Creola Ellen Gray (Hahn)

Creola Ellen Gray, 93, of Winchester, VA, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Gray was born August 18, 1925 in Rio, WV; the daughter of the late Seymour and Letha May Hahn. She was a graduate of Capon Bridge High School, class of 1944. After high school, Mrs. Gray went to work as a bookkeeper at National Geographic in Washington, DC, then moved on to become a seamstress for Singer and Warner in Winchester, VA. Her most important job though was that of wife and mother. She was a member of Round Hill United Methodist Church.

She married Cecil Newton Gray, December 26, 1947 at First Presbyterian Church of Winchester. He preceded her in death, November 30, 1990.

She is survived by her son, Gary C. Gray and his wife Andy of Goldsboro, NC; sister Carol Spaid of Rockville, MD and two grandsons, Spencer B. Gray of Carrboro, NC and Auston S. Gray of Raleigh, NC.

She is preceded in death by her infant daughter; sister, Alma Nesmith; brother, David Hahn and her special niece Paula G. Nesmith whom she “adopted” following her sister’s death.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home Winchester with Rev. Larry Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in Timber Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Guy Spaid Jr., Gerald Spaid, Dr. Jerry Hahn, Dr. John Hahn, Ferrell Heishman and Robert A. Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Round Hill United Methodist Church, 2993 Northwestern Turnpike, Winchester, VA 22603 or Shiloh United Methodist Church, c/o Henry Krautwurst, P.O. Box 308, Capon Bridge, WV 26823.

The family would like to thank the great folks at Envoy who cared for Mom and are like family to us. Also, we thank the staff at the WMC Critical Care Unit for their expertise and compassion shown to mom and her family.
