Obituary for Nancy Southmayd Smith (Southmayd)
Nancy Southmayd Smith, 80, of Winchester, VA passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at home with her family by her side.
Nancy was born September 12, 1938, in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late Clarendon and Elizabeth Talbot Southmayd.
Shortly after receiving her Bachelor’s degree, Nancy went to work as the Assistant Chief of Computation at Harvard Astrophysical Observatory. Then in Newton, MA, she married the love of her life, Bertram (Dave) Smith. They would have celebrated their 56th anniversary on May 31st. Nancy was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, but most importantly, she was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Horvath (Tim) of Cooperstown, NY; sons Daniel Smith (Birgit) of Los Angeles, CA, and David Smith (Kelly) of Great Falls, VA; grandchildren Katrina, Henry, Hannah, and Oliver; brother William Southmayd (Pamela) of NC and sister-in-law Sarah Southmayd of Hollywood, FL.
She is preceded in death by two brothers.
A funeral service will be held March 31, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2800 Millwood Pike, Winchester, VA 22602, with Rev. Gregory Cumbee officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Nancy Southmayd Smith, to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
