Obituary for Stephen Thomas Hammes
Stephen T. Hammes, 65, of Woodstock, died Friday, March 1, 2019.
Mr. Hammes was born September 5, 1953 in Winchester, the son of Roy C. Hammes Jr and Edith T. Hammes. He was a licensed water treatment operator and formally worked for several area water utilities.
Along with his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Michael Charles Hammes and Dale C. Hammes: two sisters, Lynn Rayher and Karen Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Growing up on the Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Steve developed a humble respect for and appreciation of the natural environment. He studied forestry in college and became a water treatment professional. He loved and celebrated animals - mostly his pet beagle “Lucky”. Steve enjoyed playing acoustic guitar and trombone and later in life channeled his creative talents through writing poetry. Having great empathy for others, Steve was kind, caring, generous and quickly made friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 6:00 t0 8:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday March 7, 2019 at 11:00 am at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Mayton officiating.
